When you first saw the NoBeliefs logo with the symbol of a
slash through a "B," what first came into your mind
as to its meaning?

1. An anti-belief symbol intended to outlaw or censor religion
and beliefs.

2. A symbol of hatred toward belief systems, especially religious
beliefs.

3. A prohibitive or warning symbol about beliefs.

4. I don’t know.

If you chose 1 or 2, then you might want to question how you arrived at that decision.
Consider how your beliefs have consciously or unconsciously molded
your mind to an idea that does not appear in that symbol, or
anywhere on this web site, or anywhere in the world, for that
matter.

The circle with a slash derives from international symbology
denoting warnings or prohibitive areas. Since no other international
symbol represents hatred or censorship, consider how you have
jumped to a false conclusion and also consider the source for
your confusion.

Symbols denoting no-right-turns, no-parking, no-smoking, etc.
say nothing at all about preventing these actions in other areas.
They only aim to prevent these actions in certain areas where
they can cause danger or harm.

Religious belief

Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies
solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none
other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers
of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate
with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people
which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting
an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise
thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between church and
State.

Critics of this site usually attack it on the bases of anti-Christianity
because of its articles describing the dangers of Christianity.
But Christianity describes a belief-system and one of the most
powerful engines of belief on this planet. This web site provides a secular area, free from all forms of religion for similar
reasons of why the United States government represents a secular
government.

It comes from that very reason why our American forefathers,
through careful and considered thought, decided to form a secular
government with the idea of separating Church and State. This
Enlightenment idea of prohibiting influence of religion in the
area of government (and vise versa) protects every form of thought,
including all religious beliefs, and non-beliefs.

Likewise, this site aims to demonstrate the dangers of belief
along with its most dangerous form of all– religious faith.
However, these aims do not attempt to coerce or censor, but rather
to present information for your introspection. For if
beliefs truly do represent an unnecessary function of social
or personal behavior, then it must unfold and separate itself
from your own consciousness without coercion from others. By
separating faith and belief from your mind (if only temporarily),
you will gain a perspective that you could not possibly achieve
by any faith filled means.

A freethinker, by the very meaning of the word, frees his
or her mind of religious dogma in favor of rational inquiry and
speculation. Many non-believers reject some or all forms of belief
for similar reasons but with the added ability to observe from
an entirely secular point of view. If you consider yourself a
Christian (or any other religion) who objects to our very small
position in the world as living without religion or beliefs,
then what does that say about your imposition on others?
Remember that Christianity has a long history of intolerance
against other religions and where its Bible calls for the death
to unbelievers.

The circle with the slash across a B represents a self-imposed
decision to disown all beliefs. Unlike religious beliefs
which represent the most dangerous forms of belief in the world,
and always come from some form of coercion (usually from the
happenstance of birth from a particular set of religious parents)
an individual who decides to eliminate unnecessary beliefs does
so to avoid all the dangerous trappings of religion and beliefs
in general.

I welcome all those who can see past their beliefs and to
consider how beliefs can create mental traps and dangers. For
those who cannot see past their beliefs, this site will only
anger you as I have long observed that faith and belief require
a defensive mechanism and its outlet usually begins as a form
of offensive emotion usually aimed toward hurting others. If
you feel this way, try to consider where your emotions derive,
and imagine how others will view you in light of unreasoned aggression.
